¡¡¡¡By 2006,there are more than 600 Chinese in Vanuatu, mostly reside in Port Vila, Capital of Vanuatu and Luganville of Santo Island.
¡¡¡¡The first Chinese, who immigrated into Vanuatu at the last reign of Qing Dynasty, worked for the local owners of the manor at first and started to operate some small business afterwards. And then, more and more Chinese relatives to Vanuatu for help. The number of Chinese in Vanuatu was increasing gradually.
¡¡¡¡Most of the first immigrated Chinese in Vanuatu are from Guangdong Province. At recent years, there are more Chinese from other provinces and regions immigrated into Vanuatu.
At present, Vanuatu Chinese usually engage in business activities, such as restaurants, retailing etc.
¡¡¡¡There are three Chinese organizations in Vanuatu that are Port Vila Chinese Club, Santo Chinese Association, Branch of China Peace and Unified Promotion Association.
¡¡¡¡These associations usually organize local Chinese to attend celebrations on the occasion of Chinese Spring Festival, National Day etc. In July 1997, Chinese held a mammoth parade of ¡°Lion Dance¡± to celebrate Hong Kong¡¯s return to the motherland in Port Vila, which was called a ¡° Boss Parade¡± as most of the local Chinese are businessmen.
¡¡¡¡Vanuatu Chinese could also participate in Chinese class and Shadowboxing class that launched by Chinese Club.
¡¡¡¡Those who live in Vanuatu for a long time and enjoy high prestige has been considered as loyal residents and can be elected to be the Leader of Vanuatu Chinese.
Vanuatu Chinese make a great contribution to Vanuatu¡¯s society in fields of economy, charity etc.
¡¡¡¡All Vanuatu Chinese highly respect Vanuatu people, and the aboriginals are also very friendly with Chinese. Both of them keep good relations with each other and formed a close friendship.
